On Sunday in church something caught my attention. In my small group in Life Group we read Colossians 3:1-4 and the word 'above' stuck out to me.
We're supposed to look on what is ahead, eternity, and focus on what's above.
Colossians 3:1-2, "So if you have been raised with the Messiah, seek what is above, where the Messiah is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth." (highlights and italics are mine)
But a lot of the time we tend to focus on the now....
not on what is ahead.
But honestly this earth is temporary, it won't last. And the things on this earth will fade away.
Matthew 6:19-21, "Don’t collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (italics are mine)
We live on this earth not for ourselves and just this earth.
We live on this earth for God and for what is coming, what is ahead.
So what exactly does living for what is ahead mean?.... and how do we keep our eyes on what is ahead?...
I have to really think about those questions... Living for what is ahead means what is says : living with eternity in view. Which leads to the second question...
We keep our eyes on what is above and ahead by focusing on Who is above and ahead. Jesus Christ, King of the World, Maker of the Universe, God, The Son.
Sometimes my mom has asked me this question, 'In the light of eternity does it really matter?'
To me that is a great question to ask. We get upset and spend our time over the silliest and dumbest things. But 'in the light of eternity does it really matter?'
Usually the answer is no. It's not going to matter one day whether so and so didn't like our post, or whether you wore the 'right' outfit.
We are to keep in mind eternity. We are to focus on Him, King over all. We are to look up.
Living for Him, day in and day out.
